This past weekend, the local VCIC MBA team from University of Colorado made its way down to USC to compete in the West Regional VCIC Competition. They did not disappoint. In a thrilling finish, the team from CU triumphed over MBAs from Berkeley, Arizona, SDSU, Texas and edged out UCLA by a point to take home the Happy Gilmoresque over-sized check for first place.
These five guys (pictured here from left to right: Luke Vernon, Matt Grassman, Nicolas Kuhlenthal, Judd Rogers, and Wylie Nelson) have devoted as many hours this spring to the competition as they have to any class, if not more. Their success is also reflective of the many hours and contributions from entrepreneurs, local VC firms, CU professors, VCIC alumni, and others including Joe Scharf, Gordon Sutton, Elizabeth Kudner, The Foundry Group, Appian Ventures, Greenmont Capital, Cooley Godward, Chris Leach, Brad Bernthal, Jason Mendelson, Tom Phare, and Rich Barone. A special thanks to the Deming Center in the Leeds School of Business who sponsors and sends the team to USC each year.
Winning the regionals means the team will be headed down to UNC April 16-18th to compete in the finals against Univ. of Chicago (who won the regional we hosted), Univ. of Washington, Univ. of Indiana, Oxford, and winners from two other regional events held around the US and internationally. I know they’ll represent CU as well as Boulder and Colorado well. Congrats guys on your well-earned victory.
